For years a vacuum cleaners used bags, after a period of time the bag inside the vacuum would fill up and need to be thrown away and replaced with a new one. Replacing the vacuum bag could sometimes be awkward, messy and costly. Each vacuum would have its own bags, so finding a replacement bag was often a hard enough task on its own.

It was James Dyson who first thought of the idea of having a bagless vacuum cleaner. A vacuum that doesn’t have replaceable bags instead it has filters that trap the dirt in a chamber that can then be emptied time after time.

Many vacuum cleaner makers soon followed suit and designed their own bagless vacuum cleaners.
